Build Your Dream Birth Team. Yes, You Have a Choice.

Confession...I didn’t like my first OB.⁣

And truth be told, I was too scared to make a change. Being a military family in a small town, I didn’t have a choice to whom I was assigned. I remember after our first meeting feeling so let down. ⁣

He was terse. He was cold. He was short and rushed me, and it made me feel like I didn’t have the freedom or space to ask questions. ⁣

He may have been a perfect doctor for any other mom, in fact, many in town raved of him, but he wasn’t for me.

It was a blessing in disguise when we moved states and I was transferred to a new hospital. Knowing what I know now, I wish I could’ve grabbed myself by the shoulders, stared myself in the eyes, and told myself to fire him. ⁣

YEP! He worked for me! Not the other way around. In my head, though, he was the one in charge so I had to stick with him as a part of my birth team even though at each of our appointments I felt like a kid getting sent to the principal’s office.

This was so backwards! I was ill-informed that my provider worked for me. That I had the RIGHT and CHOICE to create a birth team around me that matched my personality, hopes, and desires.⁣

Can I leave you with an encouragement today? ⁣

Build a birth team you love.⁣

Build a team around you and your baby that’s FOR YOU. For your personality, your wants, and your choices. That’s SUPPORTIVE and EMPOWERING.

Fill it with OBs & midwives & doulas & supportive partners & caring family. ⁣

There may be limitations like location, insurance, or accessibility, but I promise you there are better options out there for you than settling for a less than stellar team that matches your unique needs and desires. ⁣

You & your baby-to-be deserve nothing less.

If you’d like to learn more about how I can be a part of your birth team or how to create your best one, feel free to send me a message!
